Creative Wedding Photography | Capturing Reflections

Creative Wedding Photography Through Reflections

When you hire a Wedding Photographer, you want to hire someone who can not only capture all of the details of your wedding – but also do it creatively. One of my favorite ways to capture creative wedding photography images is through reflections. As I am capturing your day, I am always looking for things like windows, water, and other reflective surfaces to add to certain images. Here are a few examples of opportunities to capture these dynamic images πŸ™‚

Getting Ready Photos

Perhaps the most common instance I will look to capture reflections is at the beginning of the wedding day. When you are getting ready, there is usually a mirror around πŸ™‚ These are really great surfaces to capture reflections. I photograph weddings in a style that is unobtrusive – so these images are captured without asking you to pose or move around. I want the focus to be on you – and not the fact that I am there taking pictures. As hard as it may seem to do, I encourage couples to imaging that I am not even there. Unless you request a certain picture – of course πŸ˜‰

Ceremony Photos

Depending on your wedding location, the ceremony is also another opportunity to capture reflections. Christina & Maarten got married at a beautiful location that had windows near where their ceremony took place. As I moved around the location, during the ceremony, I knew that I wanted to capture their first kiss with a reflection off of the windows. This was one of my favorite images of their ceremony πŸ™‚

Ring Shots

Last, but not least, I LOVE capturing reflections when I photograph ring shots. In the 30 minutes or so – when dinner is being served, I’ll ask to borrow your rings. Since most people do not like their picture taken as they stuff their faces with food, I use this opportunity to get a few ring shots. The little details of your rings, your wedding invitations, flowers, etc. are all REALLY important details that help tell the β€œstory” of your day. I take a lot of these kinds of images and one of my favorite ways to do so is through reflections πŸ™‚

Hopefully these three ideas can give you an example of creative wedding photography images can be captured. If you are planning a wedding, I’d love to connect with you. The best way to reach me is through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
